Winter time table
As of the 24th October 2024 the lake will be closed off until the new season starts in April (date TBC)
So, the time has come to say a fond farewell to the lighter evenings on the lake. However, for the more advanced paddler its time to say Hello! To the Cold and Dark Ashby Canal.
Our winter time table is only open to members who are proficient paddler’s and who have completed capsize/spray deck test drills and deemed competent to wear a spray deck.
The reason why this isn’t open to all is based on the element of risk involved, we will be on cold and dark waters paddling as a group. We will accommodate a slightly slower paddler and you will be given a choice of which group you would like to paddle in on the night. The paddle normally takes around two hours. All paddlers are required to wear a working red light attached to the rear of their buoyancy aid (this is your responsibility! no lighty no paddle) You must also be able to complete at least a 5 mile paddle.
No SUPs will be allowed on the canal at night!
You must arrive for 18:00hrs and be ready by 18:15hrs to be on the water for 18:30hrs. conditions are likely to be cold and wet so please be prompt and ensure you have all your equipment.
