Ready to take your paddling adventures to the next level? Our Club Camping Trips are designed to help you build confidence, test your gear, and enjoy unforgettable experiences on the water — all in a supportive, social environment.
Who Are These Trips For?
These trips are aimed at beginners, making them perfect if you’re new to kayaking, canoeing, or paddleboarding.
Already experienced? You’re more than welcome too — come along, share your knowledge, and help others grow.
What to Expect
Before heading out, we’ll host a club workshop session to make sure you’re fully prepared.

Paddling gear
Personal equipment
Camping gear essentials
Food planning
Stoves, pans & cooking kit
Must-have vs nice-to-have items
Navigation basics
Tents & tarps
Sleeping gear
Packing your craft (bags, barrels, loading techniques)
Practising paddling with full gear

Trip One: Ashby Canal Adventure
27th–28th June 2026
A relaxed introduction to overnight paddling:
Paddle a section of the Ashby Canal
Camp overnight at the club
Test your gear in a real-world setting
You’ll Learn:
Does your kit actually work?
Can you stay warm, dry, and comfortable?
Cooking a proper meal outdoors
How you feel the morning after camping
Think of this as your “shake-down” trip — a chance to learn what works (and what doesn’t!) before longer adventures.
Trip Two: River Soar Expedition
12th–13th September 2026
Take things up a level with a longer, more adventurous trip along the Leicestershire River Soar.
This Trip Focuses On:
Trialling and refining your gear choices
Decision making on the water
Navigation skills
Portaging (and how to handle it)
Building endurance over longer distances
Improving paddling techniques

Join us this season for an adventure that’s all about learning, exploring, and making great memories on the water.
Summer Season
April - September
We welcome new members when the new season starts.
During the summer months, we host paddling sessions every Thursday evening at 6pm for newcomers and families to join in on the fun.
We also have sessions throughout the winter months for more experienced paddlers, as well as trips for all abilities, ages, and preferences.

- Meet at the clubhouse at 6pm
Sunday Morning Paddle
The 1st Sunday paddle of the month consists of a 5 mile paddle on the canal (with the option to go further) We normally stop after a few miles and have a picnic and a hot drink (all depends on the time of year) We have been known to stop at the pub on the way back during Hot summer days!

Thursday Night
Canal Paddle
The winter evening paddle consists of a 5 mile paddle on the canal.
There are options to go in a faster group or a more leisurely group, we have a cup of tea/ coffee (maybe biscuits too) on our return to the club. All participants of the night paddle will wear a red light on their back and have access to a white light for the front.
